F is for FREE ✨ My son took a Juneteenth Jubilee class this morning and at the end he was asked a question about what being free means--what it looks like or how it feels. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think about being FREE a lot. It's the heart of this space I created. To raise free Black children. His class got me thinking about what's free? Free for our ancestors in 1865 meant freedom from enslavement (a whole 2+ years later than they were legally freed). Free for us grown folk might mean freedom from violence, racism, generational trauma and more. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And raising these free Black children? Whew. That's being free to be themselves. Their full Amazing, Beautiful, Creative selves. Free to think for themselves and define themselves. Free to live outside the boxes and labels. Free to live, and grow, and thrive. Free to be free. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
