How to Create a Mindful Morning Routine for Children

When I created the ABC Affirmations flash cards, my intention was simple. My daughter had just turned two years old and was beginning to sing her ABCs and show interest in books. Like most of us, I searched for flash cards. Something empowering, something she could see herself within. But when I looked for alphabet flash cards, finding images of Black children, let alone Black girls, was HARD. And so, the ABC Affirmations were born.

That was my intention. But like any creative will tell you, once you make something and release it to the world, it no longer belongs to you. Which was also my intention. The ABC Affirmations were as much for my daughter (and my own inner child/younger self) as they were for you. The community, the village. Never, would I have imagined though, the way you all would embrace and truly make them your own.

Daily, I see the tags on social media, the messages, and emails about how you’re using them. It fills my heart and inspires me more than you know.

And because we’re about the village, I couldn’t keep all that greatness to myself. I knew I had to find a way to share those stories and ideas with you. So every so often, you’ll find us here, sharing a real life peek into how the babies and the village are using our learning products. Starting with Bee (@beingbeeroyster) and her two magical Black girls.

These cards are part of my summertime Mindfulness Mondays, where we start with the deck, do yoga, meditate and do a reflection stroll where they get to tell me how they are like one beautiful thing they see in the world. I go through the entire pack with my 2- and 3-year-old toddler girls. I cannot tell you how it absolutely stirs my soul to hear them both yell these affirmations to the top of their lungs. It’s honestly one of my favorite things to see!

From the affirmations, to the reflection stroll, to the question! How are you like one beautiful thing you see in the world? My heart! Thank you so much Bee for sharing your mindful Monday morning with us!
